ZERO NET ENERGY CENTER
CHALLENGE
Integrate various energy-efficient electrical systems with natural light and ventilation by employing building automation for this 46,000 sq. ft. site in San Leandro, CA.
SOLUTION
Design assist from Red Top netted the addition of renewable energy systems in solar photovoltaic, wind, and solar thermal, resulting in a building that produces as much energy as it consumes. Upon its completion, the ZNE Center became one of only a few buildings in the country recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy.
This project received multiple awards including the California State Senate, 2012 Certificate of Recognition for efforts to successfully build and install the Center’s 139-kilowatt AC Renewable Energy Systems, as well as being named a 2013 Northern California Project Excellence Award Winner.
